A Call to Connection

“A Call to Connection” is a new initiative, a sort of “human capital campaign” calling members and friends of FCCB to “show up”—to commit themselves anew to their involvement in the church community. The campaign will have its formal kick-off on Sunday, September 27, 2009.

“Connection” During Lent

The “Call to Connection” Campaign, inaugurated in September of 2009, enters a new year of involvement and activity in 2010. You are invited to connect during Lent. The church offers a wide variety of experiences including special worship services, Bible study, a new movement-centered worship experience called “Embodying the Journey”, a series of sermons based on the Barbara Brown Taylor’s book An Altar in the World, walking the labyrinth, Berkeley Arts & Letters, the Journey Home series, events designed specially for the campus community and more!

Open House Sunday

Dec. 6, 2009

Each Sunday we welcome visitors to our 10:00 am worship service. On December 6, we offer a special invitation to “Open House Sunday.” Join us during this season of Advent which is full of the sights and sounds of the season. The church will be all decked out, an inclusive communion will be celebrated which is always open to everyone, and the scripture will be presented in an inventive and lively way. We will be lighting the Peace Candle which will be part of our service every Sunday during Advent.

After the service there will be a special Community Sunday (which we celebrate every first Sunday of the month.) On this particular one, there will be an intergenerational Advent Craft Fair, led by the various fellowship groups in the church. This will be a great opportunity to connect with others while working on easy seasonal projects. Music Director Larry Marietta will also lead anyone who is interested in singing Advent and Christmas songs. And expect special fellowship hour refreshments!

A Call to Connection

Sept. 27, 2009

“You Must Be Present to Win!” On Sunday, September 27, FCCB will kick off an exciting human capital campaign—“A Call the Connection”—an opportunity to commit our presence and energy in new ways to the life and mission of the church. Showing up is a powerful statement of faith and when we are present, we win and the community wins—our commitment is made visible and we are transformed.

Join us for a special community gathering after the 10 am worship service on the 27th. The various Ministries and Ministry Teams are already planning ways for us to come together and to share the gifts of this church with the wider world. Come on the 27th to celebrate this exciting initiative. Expect food and entertainment as well!

This campaign grows out of the work of the Identity Study Team and is spearheaded by a committee formed by the Church Council which includes Adam Blons, Milton Fujii, Amy Hiestand, Phil Porter, Anne Rowe, Becky Smith, Paul Tomasiello and Betsy York. Come to affirm this new initiative and see how you can make your own investment of time and energy.

The Results of the Identity Study Team

July 1, 2009

The Identity Study Team was created by the Church Council to look at a variety of issues concerning the way that FCCB community sees itself and how it communicates its message in the broader community. The Team met for several months, created a congregational survey and held town hall meetings to hear the thoughts of many members of the community. The members of the Identity Study Team were Amy Hiestand (chairperson), Betsy York, Chris Buchholz, Cordelia Strandskov, Milton Fujii, Becky Smith, and Adam Blons (staff).
