Join in the fun at the all-church, child-friendly festive evening on Tuesday, February 28 to mark Mardi Gras, the last day before the season of Lent begins. We will have a yummy pancake supper, create masks and an impromptu parade, and enjoy the company of friends of all ages from the tiniest to the wisest. The evening fun will include crafts, games and entertainment.
Mardi Gras which translates as “Fat Tuesday” is a celebration in many parts of the world taking place on the day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Traditionally, it was a day to "live it up" before the more ascetic practices of Lent began. At First Church it is seen as a celebration of life and community. On this day we will also sign and then bury the Alleluia banner, because it is our practice during Lent to not use the word “alleluia” again until Easter.
What a great way to celebrate the joy of being alive!
